The Blue Parrot Theatre incorporated in 1983 under the creative direction of Patrick Webb.  We received 501(c)3 nonprofit status in 1993, and have produced a wide variety of over 65 productions – including Death of a Salesman, Anything Goes, Romeo and Juliet, and You Can’t Take It With You.  Our volunteer actors are selected from the very talented people in our community.  We actively encourage those with little theatrical experience to get involved and develop new skills.

In 2004 under the inspiration of Tony Bump, The Blue Parrot Theatre underwent an organization change and became The New Blue Parrot Productions.  Parts of these changes included the creation of The Blue Parrot Children’s Theatre.  This unique company strives to provide high quality training and performing opportunities for the youth ages 6-19 of Southwest Washington in a fun, family-supporting, safe and edifying environment.  Bringing the community together through our many volunteer opportunities, we have already seen dramatic changes in the lives of our performers and parents!

We have also welcomed The Southwest Washington Wind Symphony to our performing arts family.  This high-quality ensemble enables Southwest Washington musicians to perform in their own community and provides a model of excellence to our music education programs in the area.  By offering free public concerts at Vancouver’s Mountain View High School, we make exceptional music accessible to everyone in our community.

In our 20+ years of existence, the Blue Parrot has called several different venues “home” - from the Camas’s Community Center to downtown Vancouver.  Today we have partnered with Evergreen Community Education, which generously provides rehearsal and performance spaces at the high schools and middle schools in the Evergreen School District.  In return, we offer master classes, private school performances, internship opportunities and professional support for teachers.  We continue to benefit from our wonderfully supportive community and are proud that we can offer high-quality performances and educational opportunities in return.

Over 3000 people attended our performances in 2006.  During that time, we worked with over 100 adult and children actors from the Southwest Washington and Portland areas.  We provided two workshop scholarships to youth with a financial need, and hundreds of volunteers contributed countless hours to supporting our programs!  Additionally, we received over $10,000 in contributions and materials from local individuals, corportions and foundations – including the Mary Brand Award from the Portland Civic Theatre Guild.

Being involved in the performing arts helps performers, volunteers, and audience members cross social, racial, and economic boundaries.  The effective use of a community performing arts group depends upon the enthusiasm, creativity and determination of the community at its center.  Last year, over 95% of our revenue was generated from ticket sales and private donations.  This year, we strive to serve more people in our community, increase the quality of our performances, expand our ability to offer more scholarships to local youth in need, and help educate the youth and adults in the discipline of performing arts.  We need your help to improve the quality of life and cultural well-being of our community, as we bring together individuals and families in a common love of theatre and music.
